Permanently Disabled Jockeys’ Fund Awareness Day
Saratoga Race Course will unite with racetracks across the country on Saturday with autograph signings, photo opportunities and a jockey foot race as part of the Permanently Disabled Jockeys’ Fund (PDJF) Day Across America.
Riders from the Saratoga jockey colony will be available to sign autographs at the Jockey Silks Room Porch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For a $5 donation to the PDJF, fans will have the opportunity to receive autographs from Hall of Fame jockeys and rising stars, including John Velazquez, Javier Castellano, Joel Rosario, Irad Ortiz, Jr., Jose Ortiz, Julien Leparoux, and Taylor Rice.
The highlight of the day will occur when a field of Saratoga’s top riders breaks from the starting gate to run a distance of one-half furlong in a jockey foot race on the main track following the day’s fifth race. For a $5 donation, guests are invited to “bet” on their favorite jockey for the chance to win either a reserved picnic table or a table in the sports bar in the lower Carousel during the 2015 meet (based on availability, select dates apply).
