June 18: Bootsy Collins with Special Guest Shaggy
5:00 – 9:00pm
Known as the “man who put bass in yer face,” Bootsy Collins is one of the all-time great funk
and R&B bassists/singers/bandleaders. His first group, the Pacesetters, functioned as James
Brown’s backup band, and Bootsy’s inspired, clever progressions and patterns on the bass
were a vital part of James Brown’s recordings. Bootsy later joined George Clinton’s
Parliament/Funkadelic, before launching Bootsy’s Rubber Band as a spinoff to P-Funk.
Shaggy is a reggae fusion singer, widely known for his hit album “Boombastic” that won the 1996 Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album. Other hits include It Wasn’t Me and Angle. In 2012 Shaggy received a Grammy Nomination for his 10th studio album “Summer in Kingston” and in 2013 Sly & Robbie Presents Shaggy released a collaborative album titled “Out of Many, One Music.”
